Thousands of cannabidiol items have been included in the FSA’s public list, which means they can stay in the market. Besides the around 3,500 products on the CBD public list, this agency added about 2,500 items to it in the last week of April.

The original compilation stirred the pot as many brands went off the shelves after it got published when some felt that the agency should have allowed them to be traded. The FSA confirmed that 700 items had been left off because of a clerical mistake. At the same time, 1,700 more products were included in the UK FSA CBD list as brands supplied more evidence satisfying the agency’s requirements.

Big Undertaking

FSA Policy Director Rebecca Sudworth found it a massive undertaking to compile the list. As for Sudworth, almost every addition to it happened as the business concerned failed to supply the agency with the right information before the March 2022 deadline. On behalf of the FSA, Sudworth apologized for the minor omissions from that original list for clerical errors and said that it has now added them.

Sudworth stated that the FSA is urging any cannabidiol business to send evidence that associates its products with a credible application on or before May 26, 2022, for consideration.

Sudworth added that the agency would not accept the evidence for the items to be added to this list after the aforesaid date.

Trading Standards

Representative Steeve Moore of the Association for the Cannabinoid Industry said that the challenge is to utilize the coming few months to confirm that the cannabidiol industry, Trading Standards, and local authorities work closely. More expect that collaboration to confirm that there is robust enforcement as well as that business and consumer confidence in the process gets reinstated.

This is among the few updates that this agency announced that it would do before June 2022 ends. After the last date of June 2022, it will not integrate new products into the list and will only make updates to show the statuses of the items in its novel foods authorization process.

An FSA spokesperson said that retailers and local authorities could contact the agency when required for clarification on the status of an item unavailable on this list. The FSA continues to accept more applications for cannabidiol novel food registration. However, it does not allow putting the items concerned on sale up to the time they complete the agency’s safety assessment and secure authorization.
